My OB's office taped instructions to the bottle that said..."eat what you normally eat for breakfast or lunch..."
Not!!
I failed...but also failed my 3 hr. (when I was back in the office I heard the receptionist tell another patient...."don't eat sweets, jams, jellies, anything the night before/day of the test.") I could not believe that no one told me that. I falied regardless.... but, I have never had a blood sugar problem. I'm sure you will do fine....just don't be like me...--> i literally had toast with lots of jelly on it before my test. GL to you!!
TTC for 12 years. m/c 2009.
BFP on New Year's 2010.
both pg's I passed.... I ate breakfast that morning - eggs with cheese (no carbs) and went right away to take the test.
do NOT avoid sugars in the days prior - i have read articles that suggest that it will make your body spike more when you do have the sugar at the test. Just eat normal in the days prior- and the morning of - do not have any added sugars.
I was told to fast for 10 hours prior to my 3 hour test.
Sorry, I just reread your post, your doing the 1 hour. I didn't eat anything special, actually I'm not sure I ate anything at all. My appointment was early in the morning and I was running late. I failed the 1 hour with my singleton pregnancy and this pregnancy.
I was at high risk of developing GD because of a STRONG family history of diabetes (both parents, both grandmothers, two aunts, 1 sister all have Type II) and multiples, but I passed the 1-hr just fine. I now forget what the dr told me to eat beforehand but I think it was what Goldie said--a higher protein breakfast. He said do not fast or the drink will make you sick. IIRC, he said it was OK to eat a normal breakfast but just to avoid high-sugar foods like syrup, OJ, etc.
I failed my 1 hr. with DS and had to take the three hour. I am so not a sugar person, so I dreaded this test. I was going to ask me OB if we could skip it all together and just put me on a diet. LOL.
My OB suggests that you do everything as normal and take the test. Well, I DID NOT want to fail. I ate a very low-carb breakfast and drank a ton of water. I passed with flying colors. I know it was probably swaying the results but there was not way I was going to take that 3 hour test.

thanks everyone...yes goldie, OB said the chances of me passing are not as good since it is twins but not to worry about it. She wasn't stressing over it or anything.
Absolutely...if I do have gd, then I want to know to do what is best for babies, that is given in my mind. But I also don't want to eat fruit loop with toast/jelly to cause it to spike unnecessarily. I don't have that for breakfast every morning but it has been known to happen :-P

My OB said nothing with any sugar (not even milk). He said to have plain eggs and bacon. I hate plain eggs so I didn't eat before my test with either pg and passed both times.
I think you want to eat normally to get a test result that is accurate of how you're eating. I failed my 1 hour by a lot (165) but passed every blood draw of my 3 hour (and they did a 30 min draw which I don't think is usual). I wouldn't want to pass and then end up with the same eating habits and not getting properly diagnosed.
Re: GD test monday...anything I can do to prevent failing? lol

why would you fail just b/c you have multiples?
I passed- no problem.

I completely agree with this. If there is an issue, you definately want to address it.
I, too, was told with multiples that your chances of having it are much higher. I know this to be more than true.
If you end up failing the three hour, it's not that big of deal, really. GL!!!!
