cinnamon

What do you ladies think about adding a touch of cinnamon to LO's cereal? I was thinking about doing that tonight with H's cereal but then was wondering if I should try introducing something like that earlier in the day in case she had an allergic reaction. What are your thoughts? Also, in an attempt to make her like her cereal, I was also thinking about slightly warming it up. Anyone else do this?

Not sure about the spices, but I warm the cereal all the time.  You can either warm the water/milk/formula the mix or mix and then microwave for 15 seconds.

  • One of the Gerber foods is fruits with oatmeal and cinnamon.  LO really likes it.  There didn't seem to be a lot of cinnamon in it, but none the less it was in it.

I always use warm formula when I'm mixing the cereal.

  • My mom's been feeding Evelyn stage 3 (!!!) oatmeal with apples and cinnamon for over 2 weeks now without my knowledge... apparently she couldn't find the open bag of oatmeal that was ON THE TABLE, so she found the pretty reddish brown bag to open instead.... Confused So far, no adverse reaction, and she likes it, pretty good!
  • Cinnamon is a great addition. Just a touch though. I add spices to all LOs foods.Cumin to Avacado, Nutmeg to squashes and sweet potatoes, etc. Just not salt.

Me too.  I have added a little bit of cinnamon, curry, cardamom (not all at once) to foods.  My boy loves my homemade foods way better than the cheapo instant stuff.

People in U.S. are too paranoid about flavor nowadays.  Like e-bridetobe said, avoid salt because babies need very little (but really this is a biger issue with restaurant and processed foods which are absolutely loaded!).  All the other "rules" I've heard of are due to potential allergies or choking hazard.  + If your baby does have some reaction you can tell the Dr. you gave whatever spice/food but I think its actually pretty rare unless there is some allergy in your family.
