Tips on babies with colds?

DS is like snot city.  And he's coughing so his voice is all hoarse and deep.  Poor guy.  I'm gonna go buy one of those Vick's plug in things for the night I think.

Anyone try something else that has helped clear up a cold?

Re: Tips on babies with colds?

  • DD has something, I think it's allergies.  Lots of snot, red itchy eyes and swollen face.  I spoke with the ped's nurse yesterday and she suggested the bulb syringe, saline mist and a humidifier to break it up.  It seems to be helping.  DD is still too little for Benedryl.

  • saline, bulb syringe, humidifier, elevate the crib by putting a pillow UNDER the mattress, bring LO into the bathroom when you take a shower to breathe in the steam

  • Put some books under the head of LO's crib to keep his head elevated.  Also, saline drops with the aspirator worked really well for our LO.  He HATED it and screamed bloody murder, but I was able to get a lot of the crud out of his nose.

Also, Johnson & Johnson makes a menthol bath soap. I put a couple of capfuls of that in his infant tub and filled the water up nice and high. By the time we were done, his nose was draining like crazy.

Oh, and steam up your bathroom with HOT water running from you shower. Then take LO in there and play. We did that for HOURS.
