Pedialyte question - Help !

So DS has had the runs all day :( poor guy has such a red bum. No fever , no vomiting. The diareaha is slowing down now but I want to give him some Pedialyte to make sure he doesnt get dehydrated.  ** No , there is no nurses line for our Dr's here in Canada. And we cant go see our Dr today , only go to Emergency , but its not that bad yet.**

I went to the website and it says to give him 36oz / day ???? How the heck would I get him to drink that much  AND milk all in one day ?? Am I reading that right?

Re: Pedialyte question - Help !

  • I would just give him a little after each "meal".  When my DD had diarreaha that bad, the nurse told me that it's important to give them ALOT of  liquids whether that be just formula or BM or pedilyte.  So I would try to give her a couple of ounces of pedilyte after each meal.  By the way my DD wasn't a fan of pedilyte so I hope yours does better.  So IMO if you just add it into her regular feeding schedule she won't drink 36 ozs of it.

  • When DD had a little stomach bug, or pedi suggested making her formula bottle with half pedialyte half water.  It worked for us!

I hope you LO feels better soon!

  • Call 8-1-1.  BC Healthlink,  you can speak to a nurse or a pharmacist

  • Start at 2 oz at a time and work up to 4 oz.  Try formula if it will stay down.  Get to the doctor ASAP.  I am not a doctor.
  • you give LO the pedialyte instead of formula till their tummy settles down.
