How much solids do you feed a day and what kind and when? I think I need to up his solids, because he's actually drinking more BM now, and I can't keep up! I pumped 15oz at work and he took all that and a bag from the freezer, and when I tried to add another pump session, I ended up pumping less over all. Grrrr. So, what do you feed your 6-8month old? I have DH give him cereal and half a container of Gerber 1st foods in the late morning (whatever new food we are working on fruit/veggie) and then when I come home he gets cereal and half a container of 2nd Stage veggies. He seems to not be that hungry for solids in the morning, but just wants the bottle most days, but always eats all or almost all of his solids at night. Should I add a third meal of fruit in the middle of the afternoon or early morning? I think DH does not get around to the solids until noon as it is, because DS does not get hungry until 9am and then wants to snooze for a few hours right after.
Re: Because Solids Questions Never Get Tiring
When I asked the pedi about this a month or so ago, he said that what I was doing sounded good. I'm currently thinking that I need to add in more finger foods, maybe some pasta.
She gets a jar of stage 2 fruit in the morning at daycare - she usually eats all of it. This is normally around 9:30 or so. Then in the afternoon she gets oatmeal mixed with 2 oz formula (not sure how much oatmeal, whatever it takes to get the right consistency) and then they mix that with a jar of veggies - she usually eats all of that.
At night shortly before bed, I do a half jar of fruit and then a half jar of veggies mixed with oatmeal (2 oz/formula, again). She will eat anywhere from not much to all of it, depending on her mood and how tired she is.
She also eats as many puffs as she can coax me into giving her!
My LO eats oatmeal with fruit mid-morning, 1/2 3.5 oz container veggies at lunchtime, and 1/2 container veggies and some fruit (1/3 - 1/2 container) in the evening. He has about 28 - 30 oz of formula per day, and currently weighs around 18 lbs. I'm curious what others are doing as well...
At 6 months DS ate 2 ice cubes of food (about 2 ounces) for dinner.
Now, he eats three ice cubes (or equivalent) at lunch, and a total of three cubes and 3 tablespoons at dinner.
My pedi said to do second meal at 7 months, 3rd meal at 9.
If they don't want it, don't so it. They need to get nutrition from the breastmilk, just make the breakfast a lunch and you're set for a while, I bet.
This is what DD currently eats:
breakfast - 1-2 cubes fruit, 2-3 tblsp oatmeal, 1/2 cup yogurt
lunch - 1 cube veggie
snack - finger food
dinner - 1 cube veggie, 2 tblsp rice, 1/4 avacado
Nurse upon wakening
3 - 6oz bottles during the day
Nurse for bedtime
