I'm an absolute IDIOT! (vent)

My daughter and I went swimming today - first time this summer for me - and since the doc is being very conservative with my sunscreen options I haven't found any so I just didn't think about it and didn't put any on. I'm SO freaking sunburned that I can barely keep clothes on. I just took a shower and thought I was going to come OUT of my skin! I'm waiting for my hubby to get home from a quick trip to the store to slather me in aloe gel. STUPID PUPPY! OY! I've definitely learned my lesson. TOMORROW I'm getting sunscreen I can use!

Ohh NO!  If it is really bad, you may need to go to the doctor to get some prescription cream.  If you see blisters it is a second degree burn and needs treatment!  Drink lots of water until you heal and take some Tylenol if you need it.

No...no blisters but I'm just a freaking lobster. My hubby just got done slathering me down and reminding me that I am a stupid puppy. Since Benadryl is on the approved list I'm dosing myself so I can sleep tonight.

I don't know if you can use this or not while pg but my DH swears by Solarcaine -- he got so sunburned on a river trip we took that I ultimatley had to call the ER and talk to a nurse. She told me to spray a good layer on him and he said he instantly felt ALOT better. Good luck and sorry you are so sunburned, it sucks - just went through it this past weekend!

Really???? There is sunscreen you can't use while pg???? I have never heard of that.  I used lots when I was pg with Elise... never even gave it any consideration. It's just topical... doesn't get into the bloodstream does it? I'm confused...

Yeah I have not heard of that either.  I am using the HEB sun screen, I refust to be sun burnt.  Once your past 20 weeks all of your baby's organs/parts are formed so you can not damage them.

I've never heard of not using certain sunscreens either during pregnant.

Maybe your confusing it with not using anything with Retinol in it? You are suppose to avoid products with that during pregnancy, but sunscreen wouldn't contain it since it actually causes you to burn when in the sun.

You might want to check with your dr to clarify.

Actually it was from my OB that I was given the info. You aren't supposed to use anything other than zinc oxide for while you are pregnant. Nothing added or extra per doc's orders. I have a TON of sunscreens here that I've used for just about everything. I'm a Mary Kay consultant so I have the Mary Kay stuff, I've got a sun allergy (I break out in a little rash on my hands, parts of my arms, and my feet and ankles when exposed) so I have a special sunscreen I use for that. Really there are only two places that still hurt - my stomach and the area right at my hip joints - so I'm putting more aloe on after another shower. I am going to ask my high risk specialist on Tuesday because we are going to Schlitterbahn in a week and I don't have any intention of getting burned again! If I can use my regular stuff I'm going to definitely just use that if not then I've got to search for JUST zinc oxide stuff. I never heard of it either and I used whatever I could find when I was pregnant with my daughter 18 years ago. I'm SUPER fair and a red head so I burn very easily. *sigh* Just have to figure it out - I've heard too many differing opinions to be comfortable with one answer.
