Oops, meant to post this here. Vigorously shaking head side 2 side

Does anyone else's DC do this? DS just started doing this when he's tired. It kind of looks like he has severe parkinsons when he does it. Is my LO the only one?

  • My daughter does this sometimes. I've read that shaking their heads is the way some kids self-soothe.

Really? That is very interesting. When he does it I rub between his eyes and he falls asleep instantly.
  • Yah, DD does this too.  Even when i am trying to rock her or let her sleep with me.  I thought it was because she couldnt get comfortable.

  • DD does this, too! I thought she was a bit of a weirdo LOL. Glad to see we are not alone in this, although it is very, very cute.
  • Emmie started doing this a few weeks back, but not when she's sleepy. I now say no no no and she will shake her head no on command now. Its just something else they learn they can do. Sounds like maybe he is fighting sleep and then when you rub his head it just calms him and puts him to sleep! Fwiw: I was like OMG she having a seizure the first couple times! Lol
  • It's such a relief to read about this! I was almost going to post this question tonight. DS does this sometimes, usually when I am trying to put him to bed and he is not fully sleepy yet, like he is fighting it. I agree, it almost seems like a seizure or something, plus he rolls his eyes back, and they are still open a crack...it's scary!  I know he's fine, though, cause sometimes he'll wake back up and smile and try to get me to talk to him. He repeats this a couple of times, then finally falls asleep for the night.

He also does something similar, though not as drastic, in his sleep a few times a night. Hopefully it is just a way of self soothing!
