Heinz or Gerber?

My son is eating Gerber baby food right now, but I have been looking at Heinz, and they seem to have a way bigger variety of foods. Whats the difference and what and why are you using either?

Re: Heinz or Gerber?

  • I used beech nut...and some gerber here and there b/c of different flavors. I've never heard of Heinz before ::runs to check google::

  • I don't use either.  I buy O Organics (Safeway Brand).  It has the fewest ingredients, usually just vegetable and water. They also have a fairly good variety.
  • We use Heinz.  Gerber won the Saltlik award this year for using so much salt in the cooking process.

Basically they can cook the veg in a salt brine to bring out the flavour, but don't have to declare it as an ingredient.

I'm not saying that Heinz doesn't cook this way (I'm not sure), but Gerber is worse.

I usually make my own but I have Heinz organic for when we are away from home.  It was on sale at Walmart this week so I stalked up.

  • We buy Beech Nut or Gerber or Earth's Best organic. I didn't know that about the salt in Gerber. I just went into the kitchen and compare the Gerber that we have to the Beech Nut and it does have more sodium. Crazy. You can't trust anything these days...
