I am so frustrated. My LO has never been a great sleeper, but has gone through periods of STTN, only to have the good sleep end when he's hit new developmental milestones. He's been in his crib for a little over 2 months now, and even though he hasn't been consistently STTN, I could always count on him waking 1-3 times per night to eat, and then going immediately back to sleep after I nurse him. However, for the past several nights he refuses to go back in his crib after I nurse him, and will only sleep soundly (and REALLY well) if we bring him back into our bed with us. He'll actually snuggle up to me the whole time. It's adorable, but pretty uncomfortable for me.
Do you think he could be starting the separation anxiety thing? How can I help him alleviate these middle of the night wakings? FWIW, he goes down for bed every night beautifully. He also seems genuinely hungry when I nurse him in the middle of the night. He got his first tooth about 2 weeks ago, but the teething process hasn't seemed to bother him.
Please tell me this is just a phase and that I will eventually get some sleep. Help! (We're opposed to CIO).
Re: Sleeping well has gone out the window
we are using the sleep sense program.....worked great.
DS used to be a great sleeper too. He'd go down for his naps easily, and would wake up once about 5 a.m. and then go back until 9. Now, he's waking a few times a night, comfort sucking instead of eating, and waking up ready to rock n roll at 7 a.m. Plus, it's taking 30-40 minutes to put him down now too. Never used to do that - we'd put him in the crib, turn the white noise and the aquarium on and he was good. Now he whines, fusses and cries.
I'm hoping that I just need to do better with naps. I don't know where my good sleeper has gone! He's not teething or anything.
We have the same sleep issues. When she is getting ready to cut a tooth is when she does what you described. She also did this for about a week right before she started pulling up on things.
After each of these it took a few nights to get her back to "normal" but she always moved past it.
We also do not do CIO. Could your DH sleep closer to the baby so you arent bothered? We will let S fall asleep like this and then DH will move her back to the crib once she is totally passed out.
