Has your DH ever looked into Lasik or any of the other permanant corrections? Since it is a job safety issue, your DH might ne able to appeal to his insurance company to get it paid for.
I had a friend whose DH worked in a factory. He made a claim that the saftey glasses he needed to wear wouldn't fit over his glasses so he needed permanant vision correction as a safety measure. He had the surgical procedure (radial keratodomy?) not the laser procedure. This was maybe 15 years ago, so I'm sure the procedures have changed. It required getting a letter from his employer and many calls and paperwork--his wife happened to be the HR person for the company he worked for, so she stayed on top of it. After several appeals, it was completely paid for.
Re: FFG: Would insurance cover lasik?
Excuse me for butting in: I think it depends on your insurance. My oldest DD had it about 6-7 years ago. They told her they didn't think it would cover it...she gave them her insurance card and her credit card. It was never billed to her credit card (it's not a charge one would miss!) and she never called to find out if insurance paid for it...just assumed it did. I think she was afraid to find out. It's been years now so I think insurance paid for it.
I would just call your insurance and see if they cover it. Also, check to see if the fire department would cover it IF insurance doesn't.
