My dd used a nipple shield for every feeding from birth. She doesn't latch well and has a less than powerful suckle. Also her nursing was taking 1 hour to 1.5 hours or more- every feeding. I started to supplement because I was spending my whole life nursing and dd was very frustrated nursing- and so was I most of the time. But low and behold after 3.5 months of struggle now it take 30-45 minutes and no shield. Woo Hoo! BFing is like a breeze now compared to before. Thanks to my sis-in-law Amanda Brooke for the lacation cookies and lots of encouragement!!
Re: No more shields!!
Congrats! I wanted to be able to BF longer than I did. DD was the same way. Wish I could have stuck it out, but it was difficult going back to work.
Keep it up! It will pay off for you!
That is great! Congrats for sticking with it. Like you, I used shields in the very beginning and eventually DD got used to it without them.
Random here... but I just wanted to say that I grew up in the same neighborhood where yall live! (Amanda told me.) My mom is on Shirley and my grandparents are on Roxie. It's a great place to raise kids. (My mom and uncles grew up in the neighborhood too!)
