Parenting after 35

I Splurged

I decided that while there is nothing wrong with Aaron's stroller (a Chicco Cortina), it's rather bulky and when it's in my trunk there isn't a lot of room for anything else (ie. groceries, luggage, etc.).

So I'm taking a chance on a stroller I haven't "test driven" yet. I ordered a Britax Blink from Amazon.  It was on sale for $99 (free shipping, no sales tax) and will ship in 1-3 weeks.  It would be nice if it came before my road trip to Maryland and Virginia on July 9th, but if not we have my SIL's old Peg Perego to use.

This is what I ordered?in the cowmooflage pattern: Blink

I'll still use the Cortina quite often?and whenever I think he'll need the tray, since the Britax doesn't have one (but umbrella strollers never do). But I like the 55 lb weight limit as Aaron is already 24.5 lb and the compact fold and the 5-point-harness.

Re: I Splurged

  • That looks really nice.  We just bought a $10 umbrella stroller from Target.  It works many times, but I don't like the lack of storage and sunshade, so I still have to haul out the biggie sometimes.

Where in MD and VA are you headed?  How long are you staying? There are several Pa35 bumpies in the DC area!

    DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.

  • I know true umbrella strollers are cheap but I wanted that 5-point harness and something ... sturdier. I really hope I didn't make a bad choice!

As for the trip... I've been a moderator on author Nora Roberts' messageboard for over 7 years. Every July there is a big booksigning and gathering of fans. I haven't been in the last two years (after my honeymoon and when I was 36 weeks pregnant) so DH said we'd go.  It's in Boonsboro (staying in Hagerstown) the the signing is Saturday July 10th. We're driving down on the 9th and I'll see my 'net pals that evening.

After the signing is over on Sat., we're driving to Virginia. We're staying in Reston, near DH's best friend who lives in Woodbridge.  Our plan is to spend Sunday the 11th with him and his girlfriend. We'll head back home on Monday after the morning rush hour.

  • Splurging is good sometimes. But I soo understand the cortina issue. I had the same issue. But we had gotten the Chicco C6 stroller at our shower and that has worked out beautifully. It to has a 5 point harness.

Great choice though, I am sure you will be happy with it.

Nice!  I was in the category of hoping we would only need one stroller for all uses but I found that isn't the case. I think you need at least two for different situations.

  • Cute!  I love that pattern, I have the marathon car seat with it.  :)

  • I wanted that for my car seat, but we actually ended up getting the Marathon CS (super good deal at the time) for less money than the regular Marathon and the pattern wasn't available.

And here's the BEST news!  I have an Amazon credit card and they upgraded the account (no cost to me) and I'm getting a $50 rewards check (too late to apply to the order so I asked for the check) so the stroller will only cost me $49.99!!!

So far we only have two - the big one from the travel system and the cheapie umbrella. It is working okay, but the lure of the in-between types like Robyn got is very strong.

    DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.
  • The Blink makes a lot of sense for your needs - I like the storage space and the sunshade.  I am sure I would like the five point harness once DD starts trying to escape the stroller, as ours only has a lap belt.  I don't know what the weight limit is on our cheapie, but I seriously doubt it is 50 lb,

Sounds like a fun trip! Enjoy! If you need places to eat, Dixie Bones in Woodbridge is delicious BBQ, and the Tortilla Factory (in Herndon, which is next to Reston) is yummy reasonably priced Mexican. There are actually a TON of places to eat in Reston and Herdon if you want more recs.

    DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.

    We purchased three so far:

Snap & go for infant carseat (sold)

Bob Revolution (Love it!! It is our main stroller)

Mia Moda Cialo (For use when I drive the mini cooper because it will fold down into the trunk)  Have not used it yet.

I WANT to get a stroller like Robyn's new one for the station wagon and just keep it back there. But we don't NEED it.
