Hi ladies,
I have been lurking here for a while but now that I am pregnant (7 weeks) I figured it was time to come out of hiding. My DH and I were married in Puerto Vallarta just about a year ago.
We just found out that we are expecting and I feel like I should be doing something... researching, reading, etc... What did you ladies do right after you found out you were pregnant? What books do you recommend reading first? Also, I have read a lot of places that I should go to my first pre-natal appointment with a list of questions for my doctor but honestly I can't think of anything to ask that is that important this early on. Does anyone have a list that I could see? Thanks for the help. I am sure I will be around now with a ton of questions.

Re: New Here and Pregnant!
Welcome and Congratulations!
I don't think I ever had a lot of questions to ask my Dr but that's just me. Most people ask a lot of questions about how the Dr does things so they know what to expect. I have read both What to Expect When You're Expecting and Your Pregnancy Week by Week with both of my pregnancies. It is good general information that will answer a lot of your questions. As for what I did when I first found out, I came on here and talked to all of these wonderful ladies. They are a great resource.
Welcome!
Some times you think of questions beforehand and other times you think of questions while you are there. Don't stress. :-)
I have read What to Expect While You Are Expecting and my pregnancy week by week that I got at BRU when registering.
Good Luck!
congrats and welcome! I am reading WTEWYE, Your pg week by week and You Pregnant! (or something like that, it's the Dr. Oz book).
Congrats!! I think the other girls covered the pregnancy book recs pretty well.
At your first appointment your Dr. is going to have a LOT of questions for you, mostly about your & your DH's family medical history, so make sure you guys know all of that info when you go in.
I didn't really have a lot of questions at first. Some people already have an idea of how they want labor & delivery to go, so they like to ask the dr. questions about that to make sure they're on the same page. You can ask about their policy on c-sections, when they would push for an induction, how they feel about natural birth, etc, if those things are important to you.
Hi, welcome, and congratulations!
What to Expect can be a great resource. You can definitely expect the doctor to as YOU a lot of questions at your first appointment. I'm sure by your second appointment you will have some. This board is a great resource too.

Congratulations and welcome!!
Congrats! Like everyone said, get an idea of the medical history in your family before you go (mainly your side, parents & sibilings). If there are any known medical issues during pregnancy on your husband's side then mention those also (I'm thinking things like down's syndrome or hemophilia). I was asked if I knew what pediatrician, hospital I wanted to deliver at, and whether or not we would want a little boy circumcised at the first appointment. So don't let that make you nervous if they are asked. I only knew one of the answers and that was because DH and I happened to talk about the "what if we have a little boy scenario".
Book wise I also liked Mayo Clinic guide for a healthy pregnancy b/c it let me read up on various things. It's a great reference book but I had the Your pregnancy Week by Week book to give me the overall picture stuff.
questions I asked included: What's the likelyhood someone from this practice will deliver the baby (in a normal situation of course)? After they asked the health questions I asked the nurse practitioner if there was anything specific in my family history we should get tested for or was the extra testing (like downs syndrome screening in ultrasound, etc) just up to us? I asked about the c-section rate to make sure it wasn't higher than "normal". I only asked this b/c I talked to a girl (living elsewhere) that went to a doc that had a c-section rate of 70% or so which I found absurd since his practice wasn't limited to high risk patients (which would make it more likely you'd have a c-section). I also asked when I would have my first ultrasound b/c my mom was driving me nuts for a picture since "at home" the doctors routinely do ultrasounds at 10 weeks or so. Not all docs do this because of insurance reasons (they don't want you to pay out of pocket if the insurance doesn't cover it so some only do what's absolutely medically necessary).
Wishing you a H&H 9 months!
