North Dakota Babies

I think we're going to have to get a minivan. :(

Today I went to the fire department to have them help me install Caroline's new convertible car seat.  She's going to be rear facing for awhile yet, but will probably be forward facing by the time this next baby arrives.  However, both car seats are huge and I can't imagine having them both in the car at the same time.  There's barely enough leg room for the front passenger as it is.

So, moms with 2+, what car do you have and how do you have much room left over?

  • I have a jeep, but I will only have one in a car seat.

  • Obviously no experience with 2+ in car seats...BUT, couldn't you go with an SUV instead of a minivan? That'd definitely be my choice :)

  • THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH A MINIVAN!  I have one  and LOVE IT! It is so much easier. We plan on having 3 (if I ever get pg. again) and this was the best option. People may say minivans aren't as "cool" but I could care less what people think. I am confident in my coolness to drive one.Smile. If you need proof, check out this video:

I actually have a small SUV already.  I was talking about it with the car seat people and they said that you run into the same problem with a lot of the larger SUV's.

Haha!  I've seen the Swagger Wagon video before - hilarious!

And FWIW, when I lived in California, based on the vehicles at the parks, the Honda Odyssey was the minivan of choice in Orange County.

  • I know minivans haven't in the past always been associated with coolness or anything, but I have to be honest - there are some awesome minivans out there now! They aren't so "soccer mom" anymore - not that there's anything wrong with soccer. Or moms. :) Just saying... minivans seem to offer WAY more awesome amenities now, and they aren't all big & rectangular. They're more sleek and stylized. Some commercials I see make me wish I had one! Hahaha.

  • I have a 4runner. I don't have 2 in carseats but I did have 2 infant carseats in the car the other day and they fit just fine. They have a different body style out now, but I think it's a little bigger, you might check it out! If not, I personally think I would be ok with driving a swagger wagon Wink
  • I drove a minivan for the people I nannied for and it was amazing.  I think if you have more than one kid in carseats it is the way to go.  Getting them in and out will be super easy.  When they get bigger than get get in and out themselves.  It is the way to go.  You can cart their friends around, I was always slightly bitter as a child because my mom couldn't carry any friends if we were all in the car together.
