Potty Training

What to do if 3 day PT fails?

It's day 3, and while I haven't given up yet, I'm starting to think it's not going to happen for DD.  I'm willing to continue another day or two, but what do we do if this is just a big FAIL?  I mean, we have to leave the house eventually!

Do we go back to diapers? Pullups?  Then give it another try in a few months?

Re: What to do if 3 day PT fails?

  • We are on day 5 and he just ran to the potty for the first time today.  Of course he didn't take his underwear off but at least he ran, sat and peed on his own.  We had to leave the house a couple of times in the past 5 days and I put a pull up on him.  We treated them like real underwear and he was dry when we got home.

    Good luck!

  • I gave threw in the towel on day 6. lol.          went out and bought a pack of Pull ups and call them "panties"    She's still telling us she needs to pee AFTER she's gone. I'm gonna go and give the 3day method another shot in a month or two. (maybe even 3) :)

  • My girls failed at about 22 months old. One was starting to get it but the other, there was no way in 3 days I could not get her to once actually sit down on the potty without physically making her and that was not teaching her to use the potty that was scaring her. So we made the decision to back off and try again at the end of the summer when they are about 26 months old. I read the best time to try is between 23-28 months. So I am hoping by giving them the summer it will click better at 26 months. We shall see.

Oh and to answer your question. I put them back in diapers because I wanted to back off from the potty and let them kind of reboot. It has been about a month and the one that would never sit on the potty actually sat on it the other night on her own when I took off there diapers while getting them ready to have a bath. I do plan on putting them in pullups about a month before trying 3D PT again, so they have more of an opportunity to sit on the potty and try to go because they can pull down the pull ups where they cannot do this with diapers.

  • If your child is not ready, nothing that you do will make your child potty trained.  Go back to diapers/pull-ups (doesn't really matter) and leave your child alone.  You have shown her the tools, when she is ready, she will let you know.  Leave the potty seat or ring (whatever you use) out in the bathroom so she sees it and just let her be.  When she is ready, get really excited when she tries or uses the potty but don't push her.  It will happen when she's ready.
