Did anyone really do the cabbage leaves in the bra?

I'm trying to cut back to just one pumping session a day and I"m in PAIN...do cabbage leaves really work?  I have several in my bra right now and I don't know how long to leave them in there before I switch them out.

I've read stuff online, but I wanted to hear from "real" people...

  • I did the cabbage leaves early on while I was fighting over-supply.  They *seemed* to help... one thing I read was to score the leaves lightly w/ a knife or crush them w/ your fingers.  I guess it lets the magical cabbage powers out?   Huh?

  • I did but I was weaning completely. I was uncomfortable for 2 days. I switched them out every 3-4 hours - they go from cold and crisp to warm and wilty pretty quickly.
  • yes, they work. i had such a low supply that i had to give up. i woke up the next morning completely engorged. you take a head of cabbage, pull the leaves apart and cut out the white part. then put them in the freezer. put one leaf in your bra against each breast until it wilts, then replace. i was dried up that night.

  • I used them.  I was in terrible pain, and I don't know if the cabbage leaves really did that much but they were cold and that felt really good.  I felt so silly but the coolness of it temporarily stopped the pain.  Otherwise, I also took sudafed which I read can help dry you up.  I quit cold turkey though.  I was in pain for a few days.
After 2 years and 6 IUIs, we did it with IVF w/ ICSI!

The lactation consultant in the class I took swore on them. She said you need to do it constantly though and refresh them.

Don't use them if you are allergic to sulfa drugs though. I am and she told me not to touch them.
