North Dakota Babies

What do you have left to do?

Now that our June babies are born, what do our July mamas have left to do?

RIght now I am trying to figure out my plan for Mya.  I think that she will be getting picked up at the hospital by one of my parents since that is our middle ground.  Hopefully it will work.  Fingers crossed.  Besides that, I think that we are ready.  As long as Josh is able to stop home and get the camera on his way to the hospital from CT.

Re: What do you have left to do?

  • I'm not July but I'm going to answer anyways.  I still need to buy a few things to finish the nursery.  I haven't bought my cloth diapers yet but I plan on ordering them all the beginning of July.

I am still trying to figure out what to do with Rowen when I go into labor.  I don't know anyone here and if Chris is gone on a trip I don't even know how I'm going to be able to get ahold of him (esp if he is on a long flight).  Chris did talk to his brother who is an audiologist for the school district so he has summers off and he said he would drive down and take Rowen and my dad said the same thing but they are both 4 hours away.  So I'm kinda freaking out since Rowen came SO FAST and I'm afraid I'm going to be all by myself with a 4 year old and need to drive 1/2 to the hospital!  Ok, I feel a little better getting that off my chest!  Smile

Other than those little things and packing my bag, I'm ready!  Now I just need to wait!

I'm worried about 40 minutes and you have 4 hours.  I wonder how the hospital will take us showing up in labor with our kids.  Will they be understanding?

  • I actually feel pretty ready, but this is what's left on our to do list:

-Bri is getting the car seat installed on Friday.

-Finalize my birth plan.  I have a bunch of stuff printed and written down, but I need to get it into a one sheet doc and printed.

-Finish packing my hospital bag (it's almost done and I have a list sitting with it with what else needs to go in it in case it has to finish getting packed quickly)

-I just ordered a changing table this past Sat because I realized that I'm out of room on the dresser at this point.  (My original plan was to just keep the changing pad on to of the dresser.) That should be in by this weekend or next so that has to get put together once it's in.

-Assemble the stroller that came with the travel system, although I think this is fairly simple.

-Finish my shower thank yous.  I'm done 23 and I think I have about another 35 to do :(

-Decide on and buy some formula.  I have some samples at home that could get us through a couple of days just in case, but I really would like to have what will be our regular formula stocked in the house.

-Purchase more diapers.  We have what I believe will be a week's supply of Newborn size.  I'm hesitating on buying more until after the baby's arrival in case it turns out to be a big baby.

-Purchase remaining needed items from registry.  I know that I still need the humidifier, burp cloths, hygene care kit, extra nipples and I know there are probably some other items that I'm forgetting about.  Additionally, there are some things that I need that have been bought from my registry that I haven't received yet.  If this person doesn't give me these gifts soon, I'm going to have to buy them myself and return their gift.  It's important things like bottles.

-Hang cutains, valance and wall hangings in baby's room.

Wow, now that I write it out, it seems like I have a lot left to do!!!!!!!

  • I think we are ready.  This past weekend scared us enough to finish all of the last minute things we were going to do.  Now we just wait!

Natalee, I would wait on the formula because what you may think you are going to use may not necessarily work for the baby.  I would see what the hospital has been using and working, while you are there, and then run with that.  They will ask you what you prefer.  (Just a suggestion, I know that Mya didn't agree with the first formula when she was born so they had to find her a new one. )

Thanks for the suggestion.  I think I'll hold off now.  After I give birth, the least DH can do is go to the store, right?

Right :-)  I know that the hospital sent home with us the last time a box of premade bottles and that was extremely helpful.  We will have to wait to see what they do this time.

  • I'm glad this was posted:

-prep the last of the cloth diapers, all dipes should be here by the end of the week.

-grab bins/baskets from Target to organize changing table

-install carseat, go to the burbs to get it checked. (WHY doesn't Chicago do this anywhere?? so ridiculous)

-pack my hospital bag and pack diaper bag -this weekend

-make hair appointment for cut and highlights

    -eye doctor (Saturday)

-clear the non baby stuff out of the nursery

-wash crib sheet and changing table cover.

-probably reorganize the drawers of stuff... over and over

-Hopefully have our furniture delivered and put futon back in baby's room! (no control over this one! it could arrive any time in the next 4-6 weeks, just like Baby!)

-legally change my name (never did this after the wedding! going on Thursday)

-finish pre-registration for the hospital and fill out cord blood donation forms

I think that's everything... clothes are washed and put away, stroller, bouncy, swing, Pack N Play and Rock N Play are all set up.

Yes, I agree with Meg.  Target is open late and CVS is 24 hours, so DH or even you if you're up to it, can make a late night formula run if absolutely necessary.  You can not return formula at all in the state of PA, so its better to wait.

I didn't know that you couldn't return it!  Now I'm definitely going to wait!  Thanks so much for the info.

  • -Install the car seat (on DH's list for the weekend)

-Pack the hospital bag (on my list for the weekend)

-Book newborn pictures/secure photog since I can't plan the date

    -Watch our Infant Care video

-Finish our birth plan before Friday so I can give it to my doctor & doula

-Wash clothes/sheets/etc for the nursery so everything is ready to go

I think that's about it!  I'm feeling pretty ready!

  • Does everything count?  My last day of work is the 2nd, so I am kind of holding off on doing things so I don't go crazy.

I have a list on the computer of what needs to be pack.

The car seat is getting installed on Sunday by my aunt who is certified.

    Have to wash everything still.

Finish the nursery, get the closet and chair for nursery and clean it out

I am not sure to be honest.  I know that we have everything bought that I can think of us needing right away.
