So Im thinking of consigning some of ATs stuff from last winter in the upcoming sales....but Ive heard mixed feeling on this.
Some think its great, some think its a hassle to tag/label everything etc. What is the whole process? Spell it out for me the good, bad and ugly.
Ive went the consignment store route (ok), selling to OUAC (horrible), and now Im wondering if I should try the sales.
I dont sell everything just things maybe I picked up at sales and could live w/o for the next baby. Thanks!
Re: Consigners?
I've only consigned at a sale once, and it was ok. Yes, it was kind of time consuming prepping the items (hanging, pinning, tagging), but not terrible. Granted, I only had one heaping laundry basket full of stuff, so it wasn't too bad. I tagged it at about a total of $110, and all of it sold. I made just over $50. My friend who has sold several times says that she's found the general rule is that (assuming your stuff sells), you'll typically make about half of the total price you tagged (ETA: once you figure in that you only get 66% of the price, plus the $10-15 consignor fee).
Next time, I think I'm going to price my items a little higher. I was gun-shy about it last time, because I was afraid it wouldn't sell. But after paying closer attention to what other people tag things for, my prices were a steal! I figure if it doesn't sell full price, it will sell on the 1/2 price day.
Until I'm sure I'm done having babies, I only plan to consign enough to allow me to shop on the early shopping day for consignors. There's one in a few weeks that I plan to sell at. I don't have a ton, so it'll probably be around the minimum (10 items or so).
I have heard selling at OUAC and Kid to Kid is a waste of time for the money. HTH--GL!
I'm keeping most of Caleb's stuff, but selling the things I don't plan to use again. It's a pretty good way to make some $$ - plus, I like shopping early!
