I really like Clayton (Clay), but that's mostly because its my husband's cousin's name and he is a total sweetie and a lot of fun...It just sort of fits him!
Clay Aiken. Or however you spell his name. Completely ruins the name for me. Sorry
LOL
I really like the name Clay (Clayton)...just please, please don't be unique and spell it Klayten. Yes, that was the way a fellow toddler in playgroup had his named spelled *oy*.
I like it. And I would go with Clayton and call him Clay. I don't have any objection or bad associations, but then . . . I'm not even sure who Clay Aiken is? Singer? Country? Maybe? Why that should be bad, I don't know.
I love Clayton! It was on my list, but DH didn't like it because he didn't care for the nn Clay. I think it was because of Clay Aiken, but whatever, he isn't that popular.
I know an older gentleman named Clayton so that is really all that comes to mind for me. He is the only one I know with the name.

My brother is named Clayton. It's not my taste, but I don't think it's a bad name.
FWIW, he's always been called Clayton, we never called him Clay (unless it was in some sort of other long nickname... Clayboy comes to mind, when he was little.)
Married 5/31/08 * TTC#1 9/09 - 2/11 after anovulatory diagnosis and TTC for 1 1/2yrs with several medicated cycles and one chemical pregnancy, we have our first bundle of joy!

I don't take one single minute for granted.
DH's middle name is Clayton, and his family all called him Clay. When he grew up, he started going by John (his first name) instead. He never liked Clay for some reason.
I went to high school with a Clay and he was kind of a goofball. Not cute, fun goofball. Weird, odd goofball. So, I have bad associations with the name.
Thanks for everyone's input! We had to laugh at the Clay Aiken comments -we must be sooo out of the pop culture loop - absolute last thing we would have thought of.
We've prety much decided on the name but aren't going to share with any friends/ family until he's born
