Cold Knife Cone Biopsy

Hi Ladies,

I just found out I was expecting late last week, not exactly sure how far as my last 2 months I have one had 1 day periods with spotting for a day or two after. I see my ob-gyn on wednesday for my first appointment. My concern is I had a Cold Knife Cone Biopsy (Conization) in October of last year and was told that it could pose problems with pregnancy but we were not planning on getting pregnant (or at least anytime soon) so I did not question any further. If anyone has had this procedure and can tell me what to expect I would really appreciate it!!

Thanks!!

  • hahah thanks!! I wish it was coldstone!! YUMMY that sounds awesome!! It is a procedure done for dyspacia ( abnormal cells) the removes the part of the cervix with abnormal cells.
  • My sister had it done when she was younger. Last year she gave birth to a healthy bab girl and currently she is pregnant with number 2. Hopefully everything works out nice and healthy for you!

  • I had a cone biopsy (not sure about the cold knife part - they didn't say that) when I had an abnormal pap. I had it about 2 years before getting pg and didn't have any problems. I don't think it will be a problem for you, but you do want to mention it when they do your pelvic exam.
  • Thanks Ladies!! That is very good to hear!! I was getting nervous that it could be a big issue!!
  • I had a LEEP 2 years ago and my OB is just monitoring my cervix closely to make sure it doesn't get too thin or short.  If it does, then she says she will put a cerclage in (which is a stich that keeps your cervix closed).  Usually you get the cerclage done between 14-20 weeks I believe.  You can google "cerclage" for more info.

  • I had 2 LEEP procedures done about 5-6 years ago. They were concerned about the length of my cervix with my first pregnancy and gave me several ultrasounds throughout the pregnancy to measure things, but all went well. My son stayed in until the bitter end and now I'm pregnant with number 2. I completely understand being nervous, I was very concerned throughout my whole first pregnancy but there was absolutely nothing to worry about. I had trouble dilating due to the scar tissue, but the nurse just had to break the scar and I dilated fine--good luck, I'm sure everything will be great!
