We want 6 windows covered, 4 doors, +/- a motion sensor and glass break sensor. We've gotten quotes from ADT and Inter-American, both well above $1000. Does this seem right for installation? It's just a lot more expensive than we'd expected.
The question I have for you - why do you need the windows covered? Do you leave your windows unlocked? If not, I think you'd be fine with just a glass break. With the windows locked, that's the only way an intruder will get in. ADT corporate won't tell you that, they want to sell you as much as possible. They did that to us when we first moved into our house (that's why we went with Vector).
We've had Vector for 3 years and are switching to ADT, through Absolute Security (an ADT authorized dealer). The authorized dealers will typically be cheaper than ADT corporate. They had (have?) a $99 installation fee with a free wireless system that includes 3 doors, keypad, motion sensor, and one key fob. Their additional equipment ran $199 for each piece additional, I believe.
We're happy with Vector, I just wanted the OnStar service that ADT has, and our contract was up...so i'd recommend Vector as well.
I don't know exactly what we paid but I remember we got half off all the equipment if we signed a 3 year contract. We have Broadview which I think is now ADT.

Yeah, that sounds about right. We have ADT. I don't remember what it cost exactly, but it was $$$-ier than we thought. Totally worth it, of course, IMO.

Re: NBR: How much did you pay for home security system installation?
