Can you make formula taste better?

Heres the thing. DD is currently EBF. We are trying to get her to take a bottle, she'll sometimes take a bottle but it has to be BM only. We can trick her into taking formula for her night time feeding, because she's so out of it that she doesnt realize what she's eating, but once she perks up enough to know she protests it and wont take it anymore.

I know I can mix formula and breast milk, but I recently got a new pump and the thing SUCKS! My breasts have to be SUPER full, basically engorged to really get anything. I did a power pumping session yesterday and only got 1 oz, from both breasts.

So basically I'm asking is there any way for me to make formula taste better or is there a certain kind of formula that tastes better than others? We are currently giving DD Similac Isomil Advance. TIA.

  • i'm not 100% sure - but i think it probably doesn't taste so good to her because it's a soy formula - can you give her a milk based one?

  • Isomil is soy formula, if I'm not confused. Is your DD dairy-intolerant? If not, I'd try a regular dairy formula. It might taste better.

Also, if you're committed to bfing, a good pump is (from what I understand) a must. Could you rent one from a local hospital?

  • I agree with Annie, defintely see if you can rent a pump!

Also a regular dairy formula may taste better to LO. We feed Adam similac sensitive and he enjoys it more so then when we briefly tried the isomil

  • Make sure you see a LC to be properly fit for the pump shields also.  When I was pumping I read that the size the pumps come with (including medela, which I had) are not the correct size for 95% of women.  New ones are only about $10, and they made a huuuuuuuge difference for me.

I actually ended up getting the Pumpin Pals after I read about them on the BF board, and I would highly recommend them.

ETA: We have found that the organic formulas smell and taste way better. Earth's Best is available in most grocery stores.
