for those that have had to use suppositories...

DS is backed up and is soooo fussy so I sent DH to Walgreen's to get some suppositories.  He came back empty-handed and said that the only ones that they had were for ages two and up.  *sigh* 

If you've had to use the suppositories to get your LO to poop, can you please tell me what brand you've used?  I was successful in getting him to go by sticking a thermometer up there, but I'd like to have some on hand for when/if this happens again.

We used (as recommended by our doc) glycerin suppositories that were for ages 2-6. I can't recall the brand specifically, and am pumping while bumping so can't go look at the moment either. For ages under 2 you're supposed to consult a doc on how much to administer to them. Ours said to get a rectal thermometer and dip it in the glycerin, then use the thermometer to administer it and that's how much DS should get. Obviously, not a lot. Plus the thermometer is quite a bit smaller than the plastic tube of the suppository. Good luck! Our son is currently backed up as well...it's no fun and I feel terrible for him!

That is the kind we bought - for 2 and up.  They don't make them for infants.  It seems scary at first, because you wonder if that can actually fit up there... but it does, no problem.  You just don't have to squeeze out the entire amount of glycerine - just like 1/2 of it will do the trick.  No sooner than you put it in and then squeeze, the poop starts to come out with a vengence.  We bought a box of  them and actually used them all, I believe it comes with 6...  we have since used Milk of Magnesia, as per both our Pedi and GI - as too much use of the suppositories can cause a reliance on it...
