Toddlers: 24 Months+

Anyone else have a timid LO??

DS is very timid when it comes to certain things. It usually takes him a while to warm up to things/people.

For example, we took him to Chucke Cheese last night for his birthday. While all of the other kids were loving the rides, DS would NOT sit on one. After a little bit, he finally got into one. So we started it and he immediately wanted off. After that, he was OK with sitting in them as long as they are not moving.

I know this can be normal toddler behavior. Its just that any other 2 yr old that I have ever met seem to be daredevils. Will do or try anything.

So just making sure I'm not alone, ha!!

  • You're not alone.  If we're home or somewhere he's really familiar with he's a daredevil, but if we're in a new place or around new people he's much more content to sit on DHs or my lap & just observe.  If we let him warm up on his own, he'll slowly test the waters & start playing on his own if we're there long enough.  The last time I was at Chuck E Cheese it was kind of crazy, so I think DS would've reacted the same way your son did in that environment.

  • Yep.  He has been that way since he was about 18 months or so.  At this point, he's currently too scared to even go down slides or do any climbing at the playground.  I know that at some point he'll move out of this stage and I'll be wishing for it to come back.  :)

  • Yes, that sounds exactly like something my DD would do.  She has always been slow to warm up to new situations and people.  We went to an indoor playground and all the other kids were running around screaming, and she was playing quietly with some stuffed animals.  Although I went to a playdate last week, and there was a little girl who was very similar to my DD, and it made me feel a lot better!  You're not alone.
