Help me pick storage units.

I am getting 2 of the IKEA Expedit bookcases-- one for toy storage and one for my craft stuff. I am on the fence about colors. They have white, birch effect, walnut effect and black/brown. I am not keen on the birch.

They are both going into the basement, but I am not sure if they will be in the same room or not. So I don't know if I should get matching ones, or one of one color and one of another.

  • I would get matching ones incase they are in the same room. I like the walnut, but i am a sucker for darker wood shades.

  • I like the black/brown.

  • We have an entire office suite of the black/brown.  I love it.  We've had it over 3 years and it's held up beautifully.
I would get them in the same color.  Gives you more options for the future.
  • I always like white and the dark woods.  For this purpose, I would probably go with the dark wood because it would be pretty versatile in any room you'd want to use them in.  And definitely get both the same, just in case!
  • I was stuck between the black/brown and the white. Winery has a white one, and it's really nice, but the walls in the basement are white-- I think I'll go with 2 of the black/brown ones, and live with it if I am not happy. :-)

  • The only bad thing about the black/brown is they show dust really fast.  We have a dresser in that color.  I still love it, though.  I think it looks richer.

  • We have 2 of the black/brown ones in our den along with the matching desks.  We really love them.  We added 4 of the optional cabinet doors and 2 sets of drawers and then left the rest of the squares open.  My only complaint is that the black/brown shows every speck of dust.
  • Hmmm. Now I am torn again. We got the black/brown Hemnes dressers for DS, but haven't set them up yet, so I didn't think about the dust. But how dusty can a basement be?

  • We have the black brown.  I like it a lot.  It holds practically everything in DS's room.

I want another one for our office.  I have the red plastic crates for 10 holes and lowes has metal crates that fit perfectly for about $12.00 or $14.00 each.  I have 10 of those too, then DS has the bottom shelf for his toys he can get out and play with.
