Success after IF

Does your LO have a linea negra???

I never got one throughout my entire pregnancy, but lately I've noticed that Jake has one.  I'm pretty sure it hasn't been there for his entire life, but just for a few months.  Should I be concerned or is it ok? Also is it really "linea negra" in an infant, or is it something different?

Re: Does your LO have a linea negra???

  • No idea... DS doesn't have one!  But he's also pasty white... Maybe it's more common in darker babes?

  • So weird that you should mention this....I noticed it on DD the other day.  I never had one throughout pregnancy or after, but I've been noticing it on DD.  How bizarre!

  • Everyone is born with a linea alba - a barley visible line in the center of the abdomen. When there is sun exposure it increases melatonin and can make the line darker. The reason pregnant woman seem to get it a lot is because estrogen increases you melatonin production.

And yes, people with darker pigments do see it more since they have a larger amount of melatonin  to begin with.

I am sure there is nothing to be concerned about, of course always take to your doctor if you are concerned though.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I have a serious habit of retaining stupid knowledge. The linea negra fascinated me for some strange reason, so I dug to learn more about it.
