Help me choose a Birth Announcement!

I'd really like to choose which birth announcement we're going to go with this week, so I can pre-order the envelopes and have them all addressed and stamped before he arrives.  MH and I have narrowed it down to six (very different!) designs.  To help us get more perspectives, please help us!  Vote for your favorite, tell me why it's your favorite, and if you don't like any of them, please tell me why, too!

TIA!

(Names and info are obviously not correct!)

Re: Help me choose a Birth Announcement!

  • Have you figured out which pictures you want to use and how many? And have you tried putting them into the template for these cards? Because that might narrow it down for you. I know when I was looking I specifically wanted 2-3 photo slots and they had to be horizontal. To use the specific pictures I wanted to use, that knocked out a lot of cards from consideration.

I close the standout name because it really stands out to me! I like the first three as well, but they look like cards I've received before. The standout name one, with a great photo, can really grab someone's attention.

  • I voted for #5...my thoughts...

#1 - really like this one! Great layout, interesting without being overly cutesy. Like the colors too.

#2 - like the colors and concept but not the execution. Something about the balance of photos feels off to me.

#3 - my least favorite. It's just kind of meh compared to the others.

#4 - Nice, my third choice. But I feel like I've seen this design (or some variation of it) a LOT lately.

#5 - LOVE it! Clean, graphic, unexpected. It's like a magazine ad - I mean that in the best possible way. Using just the first name in big letters - it's nearly iconic.

#6 - cute, just not my style.

  • I like #4 but I agree that it depends on the photos. We chose our design based on the number and style (e.g., vertical/horizontal, sepia/bw/color) of the photos we wanted to share.

  • I like 2, 4, and 5 the best with 4 being my top pick.  mostly just b/c i'm not the kind of person that can settle on just ONE photo :) so, even though 5 is bold and unique, i could never pick just one pic! HTH!

You're right--they are very different! Makes it harder to choose =) I was pretty torn between #1, #2, and #5. Ultimately, I voted for #1 because of it's unique creative design with the journal entry--I haven't seen that before. But I really like #2 and #5 a lot too!

  • I voted for number 5 because it stands out from the rest.

  • i like #4 and #5 but it's really hard to decide w/out pictures.  I ended up with something way different than had picked out before he was born just because I liked the say the pictures looked (also made a difference since we didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl or names).
  • I voted for #2 b/c I like the classic, elegant look of it, BUT I really like the uniqueness of #4.  I can say I have never seen a birth announcement that looked like that before & I agree with Lisa...it does kind of look like magazine ad, but in the best way possible.

  • I tried to chose ours ahead of time but had no idea which shots we'd get from our newborn shoot.  I ended up designing my own and printing 5x7 double sided glossy postcards ($24 from 50 from overnightprints.com) and then bought 5x7 envelopes from Michael's to send them in.

This is what I'm having trouble with.....I have no idea what the final shots will look like, so it's really hard to choose a design now.  I just love the idea of already having the envelopes addressed, so I thought I try this route.

I love the idea of designing my own....especially since it would be a lot cheaper.  But I don't have any skills whatsoever in that department.  I have no idea how to use photoshop or any other type of design tool. So I'm stuck ordering.

I didn't use Photoshop...just MS Publisher.  Made them the size of a 5x7 and saved design as a jpeg then uploaded it to overnightprints.com  you could probably do something fairly simple (colored blocks, etc.) with Word or PowerPoint.  Or maybe one of the talented ladies here would be willing to help?  You could get envelopes from Michaels or Office Depot and pre-address, or print labels, which is what we did.  Easy peasy!
