Hawaii Babies

when did you have your baby shower?

My friends are throwing me a baby shower and asked to give them several dates that I prefer. I am due Oct 24th but I want to have the shower 3rd or 4th week of August. I will be 30-31 weeks then. Is that too early? We may be out of town 1st week of Sept and DH is OOT 2nd weekend of Sept. I am off work last 2 weeks of Sept (use or lose vacay days) so I am hoping to get all things done by then. If  we look at having the shower end of Sept, that may be cutting it close? I am such a planner and want to get things ready ahead of time. Of course, there is no telling when this baby will decide to come out. For all you know, she may not come out until November!

Re: when did you have your baby shower?

  • I am having mine almost exactly one month before my due date.  (I due 9/9 & having my shower 8/7).  I really wanted it to be in July, but by the time we tried to reserve the room, they were booked all of July.  :(  I personally don't think the end of August is bad for you. You are going to need awhile to get everything straight, return duplicates, put things together... I am worried I won't have enough time to get everything organized with just a month.

  • I will be 33w and a few days for my shower in July.  The summer booked up SO quickly with things to do on each weekend so I think the sooner you pick a date the better.  We (my BFF and I) actually picked out a date back in May I think :)

  • I had one about 6 weeks before my due date and another about a month before.  I thought that was good timing.

I also had mine a month before my due date. I don't think 30-31 weeks is too early. Plenty of babies come a month before their due date so I thought I was cutting it close, although I had a feeling that he wasn't going to come that early so I wasn't too worried. You never know =)

  • I don't think 30-31 wks is too early at all. i also don't think end of Sept is too late either :) most of the time w/first pregnancies that babies aren't born until their due date or later.  i bet if you polled most of the mamas on this board, most did not deliver until very close to the due date.  i know some delivered early but i think most were late :)
  • I think I'm in the minority.  I had my shower when Elyse was about 8 weeks old.
  • Personally, I think 30-31 weeks is absolutely perfect!  I had my work shower at 31 weeks, family one at 32, and a small get-together/shower with a few friends in Chicago at 33 weeks.  I liked the timing of my showers, as it gave me time to get organized and unpacked after the showers, and time to buy what we still need without being too stressed.  And time to write out thank-you notes, too.  I like to plan ahead for things, though....I don't like to wait until the last minute for most things.

Plus, I had a lot more energy at 31 weeks.  Even more than I do now, at almost 35.

  • I had mine really early...I think I was 29 weeks? But it was a work shower, and that was the last week I was at work. I think you could have it the last weekend in August, but I also think that the 3rd week of Sept would be good timing and still give you plenty of time to get ready (and this is coming from someone who had pretty much everything done by about 32 weeks lol).
  • No, I think that's perfect... My friend who was due last Oct. 22 had her baby shower on Aug. 29.

I had my shower when I was 32.5 weeks along. Another friend had hers when she was 34 weeks along.

    HTH!

This is exactly my reasoning why I want to have the shower in August.

    Thank you all :-)

  • we have several friends in SF coming up for a video game conference (hah - it's an annual boy thing, and they all bring their wives and we hang out - it's fun Smile) labor day weekend - i'll be 29 weeks then, and my friend suggested doing the shower then.  i thought it might be a little early, but it works out well that a bunch of ppl will be here already.  so, while I would prefer a little later, i'm thinking that's what we'll probably go with!

  • One was at 37 weeks and the other was at 38 weeks.  The only reason I would have like them sooner is because I looked AWFUL in the photos...so vein, huh?  But really, ask Nicole since she was part of my 37 week one (we were having lunch and I knew that I was going to be going to my surprise shower and I looked like crap) how swollen I looked!

Just as a side note...I was really thankful of all the gift cards I received.  I did all my shopping after the baby was born. There were so many items I didn't realize I would need until after I had him.

  • I am having mine August 21st and the baby is due October 10th :)
