3rd Trimester

Would you go swimming at 39 weeks?

We've been taking DD to the pool every weekend since memorial day.  It's great, it feels good and is relaxing.  I just found out that I am now 1 cm dialated and 70% effaced, I still have my mucus plug.  Do you think it's safe to continue swimming?

Re: Would you go swimming at 39 weeks?

  • I'd ask your doc for this one.

  • hells yeah!!  enjoy that weightlessness!!  I think its only an issue if you are leaking amniotic fluid?
  • My unprofessional guess is..  Yes.  I'd still go!

  • I'm pretty sure its fine but it never hurts to ask your dr.

  • I would.  I can't see a reason not too.   But, I suppose your Dr. may have better insight...
  • I've always been told unless your water has broken that it's fine to go swimming.

  • 10000% yes. I would only worry if your water had broken, and you probably won't be taking DD for a relaxing day at the pool then anyway. You can definitely go swimming. I'm still swimming at a LAKE!

  • Um, he!! yeah! I still go, and it feels amazing! I just hate getting out and gaining all that weight back instantly  Embarrassed  My doc is fine with swimming and baths, as long as my water hasn't broken.....
  • Unless your water's broken, yes! Enjoy!

  • I feel it's safe,  but I would only do it if it were my own pool or the pool of someone I know.  I would feel bad if my water broke and unknowing strangers were swimming in my amniotic fluid.. lol!  I know, I know, people pee in pools, and that's what chlorine is for...  but it's just the idea....  Stick out tongue

  • My doctor encourages swimming, so as pp have said, unless your water is broke, then enjoy it!!
  • If you can take a bath, I would assume that swimming is also fine!

    Yes

  • My OB already said she'll probably cut me off from swimming at 37 weeks since there's no way to know when you will lose your MP and risk infection.

It is fine for you, but I'd worry about it being gross for everyone else if my water broke, not that you'd know til you got out though.

    Yes

  • I would say go for it. But you could always check with your dr. to be absolutely sure.
  • I'm still swimming. I never even considered it something I'd need to ask about.
