Ava is just a siv (sp?) right now... she's like her dad, she hears something once and retains it very well. So I'd like to take advantage of it, in a way appropriate for her age. (26 months)
What am I supposed to be working on with her right now?
Our list:
learning our animals, shapes, colors, numbers, letters, singing songs, stacking, drawing, playdo, bubbles, chalk, painting, imagination play, and of course, just physical fun no-point-to-it just-be-a-kid playtime.
She helps me with the laundry and cooking, and I "teach" her the whole time in toddlerese....
What else should I be teaching her? what's your kid into learning?
Re: Toddler+ moms - what else do I teach this kid?
Are you sorting by colors??? You can get pom poms and colored baskets/cups and have her sort by colors. Or get a set of sorting bears......Connor loves these
Start doing some more "math." Even if she isn't truly getting it, when you are playing or putting socks together, do addition problems.
What about practicing holding pens/pencils and star tracing???
Have you tried scissors yet? Its a great skill for her to start learning how to hold them. I just let Connor cut up paper and cardstock (junk mail is great for this!)
Also, you could start helping her learn about glue! Connor likes to glue googly eyes and pom poms on paper. Its actually a really good skill for them to learn how to use "real" glue so they can start to understand how much is necessary!
ooh - all good stuff! yeah!.

Former Preschool Teacher here. I taught 3 year old Preschool and 4&5 year old pre-k. This is what we liked our 3 year olds to know coming into preschool:
-How to properly hold and cut with scissors
-How to write and identify the letters in their name (for Ava this should be easier than other children since her name is all of 3 letters)
-Identify their colors and shapes (including shapes like diamonds so more than just your basic circle, square, triangle)
-Manners (saying please, thank you, excuse me)
That is all I can remember right now but I will let you know if I think of something else.
How about how to spell her name? My niece is 3 and can spell hers (Brooklyn) because we made it into a simple song for her. RIley has one too (no I don't excspect him to learn it yet) it goes:
r-i-l-e-y riley likes to fly
r-i-l-e-y riley is my guy

I've started working with Campbell (another teacher here) on a variety of skills and blogging about it on our family blog. Here's the link to my most recent post. You can go to our blog and look for posts with Crafty Mommy Monday in the title to see all of the things we've done.
