Miss K about once or twice a week wakes up at night and I can hear her on the monitor sucking her thumb. Not crying, just sucking. Usually I get up and feed her, assuming she's hungry. But now I am wondering if I should let her self-soothe herself back to sleep.
Last night I let her suck her thumb for about 15 minutes. She never cried. I eventually went in and she happily ate for about 3 minutes before she passed out.
So my question is should I let her lay there sucking her thumb until she falls back asleep? Or how long would you let her lay there sucking her thumb before you go in to feed her?
Re: Sleeping/Self-Soothing Question
HTH!
This exactly. She will let you know when she is hungry. If she gets used to not eating in the middle of the night she will be more likely to STTN (IMO).

Ok, I will try this tonight. But how long is too long? 15 minutes? 30? 45? Hour?
If she is awake and not fussing I would wait until she starts fussing/crying.

This!
I agree. I only go to B if she fusses. Most of the time she falls back asleep on her own.
I let Alex sooth himself back to sleep, if it isnt his harsh, feed me damn_it cry i will let him try to fall back asleep for a little while on his own. Sometimes it takes me picking him up and just rocking him too.
