Hawaii Babies

the universe has a nasty sense of humor

Yesterday I said to Ben that I wished I could get a break from caring for the babies - a real break, for an entire day, not just an hour or two. And then when I woke up last night for their 4am feeding, my throat was dry and scratchy and red.

Yup. I'm getting a cold. I got Ben up last night to feed the boys and he's had to stay home today to look after them so I can try to contain all my nasty germs (I'm sure they've already been exposed, but you still do what you can - do you think I should buy some antibacterial wipes and wipe down the stuff I touch?).

Come on, universe - when I said I wanted a day of not caring for the boys, THIS ISN'T WHAT I MEANT!

So now I'm sick and cranky and trying very hard not to get annoyed at Ben (earlier I woke up to the sound of Will and Dash crying on and off, and when I asked him why, he said it was their feeding time but he was waiting for me to wake up to help...um, #1 I'm sick so I'm not touching stuff that goes in their mouths, and #2 WTF dude?!? Feed the babies!!!!!!!). He's always been good about contributing help but he's never looked after the boys for longer than about 2 hours on his own, so I think this is all a bit of an eye-opener for him. Well, I hope it is, anyway...

Can I please get some healthy vibes? I don't want to be sick and I miss playing with my little men!

  • Blech, I'm sorry to hear that you're getting sick! Do you have a fever? John got sick a few days before I gave birth and we were worried that he wouldn't even be allowed in the delivery room. In the hospital, he wore a mask to keep his germs to a minimum and I also made him wash his hands a ton. I also caught a cold a few days after we got home from the hospital but J was lucky enough to avoid catching it. I hope your little boys are tough enough to stay healthy! And hope you feel better soon!

    Do you have a fever?

Not that I've noticed - it's mostly just the throat at this stage, plus a minor headache (it took me a while to realize I had a headache, which is kind of sad lol - but I'm pretty tired all the time anyway and was attributing it to that).

I'm washing my hands a ton and avoiding touching their bottles, and their hands and faces. I hope that's good enough...I know that by this point they've already been exposed to the germs for the last couple of days, but hopefully they'll be able to fight it off!

  • Feel better soon, Lisa!

Ahhh, I just had the same thing! Except I gave it to my LO and I felt so bad!

It started out with a sore throat, no fever, and then progressed to a stuffy nose. It lasted for a good week and I just started feeling normal again today. The baby, on the other hand, still has a stuffy nose and a cough too =( It breaks my heart every time I hear his little cough and the stuffy nose keeps him up and interrupts his sleep too. I've been using the nasal saline spray and I try not to use the syringe bulb for his nose too much (b/c it can damage the tissue and cause more congestion) but sometimes I have no choice because he's so congested that he can barely breathe.I was still BFing so I think that's how I gave it to him because by the time I realized I had a cold, it was too late...he already caught it too =/ Hopefully your boys won't catch your cold!

  • oh no Sad  i hope you feel better soon, and the boys don't get sick!  sounds like it's still pretty early - sleep lots (if you can!) and drink lots of water and vitamin c, maybe you can fend it off!
