S/O Birthday Parties - time

I too have began to plan Lyla's 3rd birthday party for August. I have the date set and we just decided where. We are trying to save money, so we decided to have it at Kids Kingdom at Dublin park in Madison. It's FREE. Can't beat that and it's an awesome park!

My dilemma is the heat. It will be the end of August. They have a pavilion with 4 picnic tables that we will set up food and eat. I am only planning to serve light kid food (cut pb&js, grapes, carrots, goldfish, chips & cheese cubes) and cake. Pretty much the whole playground is shaded by huge trees but  it's still going to be hot.

So.....do you think that 9am-11am or 10am-12pm is better??? I am leaning towards 9am but I don't want that to be too early, you know?

Thanks!!

Re: S/O Birthday Parties - time

  • Nate's birthday is in August so I feel your pain! I would do 10-12p. Only because I know how bad I hate to get up and get the family ready and out of the door that early on the weekend. lol....but maybe I'm just lazy!
  • Loading the player...
  • I would probably go 10-12 also, I know 9 is just an hour earlier, but it seems early to me.  Maybe I'm lazy, too!

Also, I bought and cut the Uncrustable PB&J sandwiches for J's bday party, and they were SO much easier than having to make the sandwiches.  Yummy, too!

  • Ours was outside in the heat and started at 11.  (Or should I say 11:30, Lisa? LOL!)  We had a tent and it was bearable under it.  Not as bad as I was expecting.  If you are debating between 9 and 10 I'd say 10.

  • how about 9:30???

    I'd be good w/ 9 am.

  • I'll go with the crowd and say 10-12 for pretty much the same reason.  I kind of feel like in August it's going to be hot no matter what you know?

  • I think 9 - 11 would be better just because the later it gets, the hotter it gets!  The kids could run around and play for the first hour, then at 10:00 sit down and have food (since the food is fairly light, it's kinda like a big snack and I think most LO's are ready for a snack around 10).  Then you could do cake & presents and it would be time to go before it gets sweltering hot!

This was my thought process. I just worry that 9am is too early for some.

  • Monica--I am kind of stealing your thought of doing it before nap like you did with Caleb's party. That seemed to work well for us and the light snacks you did.

Remind me, what time was his party and what food did you have? It seemed to work well.

  • Most morning birthday parties I have been to have been 10-12. Honestly, we never get out of the house before 9, even on the weekends. I think 10 sounds much better, even with the heat.

  • What if you did it late afternoon? Say from 4-6 instead that way it won't be too early and it will be cooling off. BTW: I have no experience with this I just know with me being pregnant we don't get out early enough to do stuff before it gets hot so we just wait until late afternoon when it starts cooling down.
