I was "that" Mom this weekend (Long)

Ya know the one you see with the screaming kid wondering why they can't get them under control.

This past weekend we went to our community garage sale to see if they had anything fun. It was across the street from our house so I loaded Austin up in the stroller and headed out while DH did some stuff around the house.

Anyways, I found this Leap Frog table that was in perfect condition, took Austin out of the stroller and let him play with it for a min to see if he would like it. (Big mistake) While he was playing I got to talking to the lady, she was asking how old he was, yadda yadda.

He loved it, so paid the lady ($2 SCORE) and started to load Austin back in the stroller. That is when the Holy grail of temper tantrums started. He wanted NO part the stroller. He starting screaming, flailing his arms and legs around. I remained calm but wanted to hide under a rock. Embarrassed

The lady even made a comment, she said she couldn't believe that he acted like that at such a young age. Thanks a lot lady, your comments aren't helping me remain calm.

Anyways, finally got Austin in the stroller, grabbed the table and walked home while Austin screamed in whole time.

So freaking embarrassing!!!!

  • Ahhh ha ha ha sorry, I used to be one of those people wonder why the kids weren't being controlled.  As a my mom now, I think is funny to see them get upset and develop their own personality.  Screw the lady!

  • I used to be that person too!!! Austin has quite the stubborn personality with a temper that rears its ugly face at the drop of a hat.  He is totally going to give us a run for our money when he is older.

  • I've been there. You will be happy when he is older because he will be persistant and go after things that he wants in life.  This trait will help make him successful in life.

    This is a nice way to look at it.  I'm sorry, big hugs.  I know that my LO will be the same way, he already has a temper (I blame DH) Wink

  • I am pretty sure they're never too young for a temper tantrum.  Forget her.  Hugs!

    Yeah, try to look at it this way. Admire his passion.

    That woman was out of line. I'm sorry, becasue we've all been there, or will be there shortly, or will be there shortly again soon.

    ::hugs::

  • Thanks ladies... Thinking about it in a positive way does make me feel better. He is very head strong and goes for what he wants, and he is determined in the fact that he doesn't give up until he is successful. Hopefully this trait will continue later on in life!

  • Cardinal rule of parenting- this will one day become you! ;)

    Seriously though, it happens to everyone at least once.  Wear it like a badge of courage that you both survived and own it- it's all parent of the growing process...sometimes, more for us than them. ;)
