Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Does anyone know??

Does anyone know anything about short term disability? I've been calling everyone I can think of (insurance company, HR dept at my husbands work) and I'm not getting answers. Each person directs me to someone else. I'm getting extremely frustrated. I honestly don't think I can go back to work. I'm going to take off for as long as I possibly can IF I can collect disabilty. If I can get it after having a baby and being on maternity leave for 3 months, why can't I get it after delivering a stillborn? Ugh!

  • I have Aflac for STD and called to see if I could use it. The gal I spoke to said that if I was off work for 7 days then benefits would kick in at that point. The 7 days include weekend days as well.  I'm so sorry for your loss and for your frustrations! I hope you get some answers soon!
Tried for 2 years before diagnosed with DOR and low Progesterone. MC at 16 weeks in June 2010 (Told Placenta Previa contributed to the loss)
Mommy to one darling & amazing little girl :) Born September 9th 2011 (C-Section at 38 weeks for Placenta Previa)

I know that depending on where you live and where you work will make a huge difference in STD (like how many employees, etc.)  In Oregon, if your company meets all the requirements, then you get up to 65% of your weekly pay or $365/wk (which ever is less) after you are off work for 7 days.

  • Even your HR department wouldn't answer your questions?  That's wild!

I think it differs in the requirements and how much you will get paid.  Would it be in your employee handbook?  You should think about FMLA as well becuase that will protect your job.

  • I pay into my short term disability every week and was able to take as much time off as I needed after having Aidan. STD for me kicks in a week after I started my leave and would cover until 6 wks for vaginal delivery or 8 weeks for c/s. Once 8 weeks has passed then I would be covered under FMLA for the remaining 4 weeks, but wouldn't get paid for it. You would need to speak to your HR to find out about it.
