Postpartum Depression

Where are my OCD moms?

How are you girls doing? I feel like my OCD is out of control right now. My therapist is trying to get my anxiety under control which she thinks will get the OCD to settle down a little bit.

Anyone have any good coping strategies they want to share? I'm always looking for new ideas!

Re: Where are my OCD moms?

  • Do you have OCD regularly, or was it onset after LO was born?  I have a history of depression/anxiety, but I feel now I have some obsessive tendencies now (but not so much the compulsions).  I am currently struggling with PPD hardcore, and the obsessive obtrusive thoughts are making it so difficult to live day to day.

  • I think I've had it for a long time, but was just officially dx with it. I have a few compulsions but I have the hardest time with the obsessions. I obsess over ever pain, illness, ailment etc and turn it into me dying. My daughters food allergy is a huge source of my obsession also.

  • Overall, I'm doing really well. I was actually just "released" from therapy and will now only go if I need to check-in or relapse.

I've been a little more anxious than normal this week (which manifests in obsessions) because I've gone back to work.

CBT with Zoloft has been a good combo for me.

What kind of therapy are you doing? Meds?

OCD can be a biotch, I know.

  • Have you tried ignoring it? I mean don't know exactly what your OCD is centered around....But I've had my OCD problems sense I was very young. Sense LO has come I try to ignore a good portion of those compulsions.

Before I had LO I bleached everything in my home at least 3 times a week. I've finally been able to avoid doing with the exception of once a month which at that time I leave LO with gma and gpa.

I've went down from wash my hands 40+ times a day to only after using the bathroom.

Although I still do go through the cabinets to insure every label is facing forward, and I still have a time with learning that sometimes the house isn't going to be prefect. I have even gotten 2 puppies to teach myself that there are accidents that are going to happen.

I will admit that ignoring them is hard at times but with medication, a little boy and support it's getting easier. Kind of.
