Washington Babies

I *think* we have a name!

So, naming this baby girl has been really hard! Last night Andy sent me the rest of his name list (he gets to pick the name out, I have vetoe power). One name on his list is a winner!

Thea (pronounced Tay-uh). I think we are going to have to decide on the spelling - I don't really want her to have to correct people from Thee-ah the rest of her life.

Other things I like about the name... 4 letters (weird superstition of mine, but Luke and Ella fall into that as well), the meaning - Gift of God, harks back to an LM Montgomery story, and is the Greek Goddess of Light which is AWESOME! cause Luke is the bringer of Light and Ella is Light.

So our front runner (because Andy doesn't want to say that this is the one!) is Thea Elisabeth (Tea, Tiah, Taya?).

Also note - Tea Leone is really Elizabeth Tea, odd coincidence, but I am cool with it.

  • I have always loved the name Thea. Good choice!

  • Ooohhh...That's pretty.  I like Elisabeth with an "s", too.

  • Very pretty! I met one of my sister's friends this weekend and that is her name :) I'm not sure how she spells it ... I think Taya would be the best to avoid correcting people all the time :)
  • I've also seen it Teia.   I think Tea just looks like tea - like iced tea.

It's a pretty name though!  I like Thea or Teia.  FOr some reason I'm not liking the way Taya looks.

  • Oh great name! I know a Thea - but it's pronounced "Thay-uh"  :) She'll probably have to do some correcting throughout her life but if you love it - use it. You could spell it phonetically Tayah...but then you get into the whole crazy spelling conundrum.  Good luck!

  • Very pretty.  How about Teya?  That's still 4 letters and seems to be phonetic.  Enjoy your visit!
  • Pretty!  I knew a Taya when I was in early elementary school, but I haven't met another one since.  (And FWIW, I think Taya is the best spelling)
  • Great name! I've done photos of Taya a couple times and have fallen in love with it. I think you're right about the Thea spelling - lots of correcting! :)

  • I really like Teya too....I know a Priya and no one mispronoucnes it. Also you could do T?a with the apostraphe over the "e" - I believe that's what T?a Leoni does. Love the name!
  • Beautiful name! I know a couple Theas and both are pronunced "Thee-a" so I agree that a different spelling is probably the way to go. I like Teia and Teya and Taya. :) Congrats on having a front-runner!

  • I really like the name, too, and agree on a spelling other than Thea.  I do think ppl will tend to think it's [thee-a].  I like Taya, Teya, and Teia.

    Congrats!

  • Very nice! I'd go with Taya, though, to avoid the confusion. I know some Theas and it's said thee-uh. I think Taya and Ella look good together!

I agree.  Taya would be my first choice for the spelling. My friends sisters name is spelled Thea but pronounced THEEAH.

  • We have a family friend named Mathea that goes by Thea.  I would do Teya or Taya for the spelling.

  • I love it! I like the way Taya looks and would be easiest to pronounce and it sticks with your rule of 4 letters. I also love how all three of your kiddos names would fit together.
