how does the boob rotation go for the next feeding? If I feed Anna on my left and pump on the right... for the next feeding to I put her on the right?
and if I don't intend on pumping at EVERY feeding, is that a problem? I really just want to get a small supply in the freezer - with the goal being to introduce a bottle so that DH can feed her occassionally and so we have a supply for grandparents/babysitters so I can get out of the house. Is there anything different I should do during the feedings when I don't pump?
Re: If I want to pump and BF at the same time...
Yes, you should have her feed on the opposite side (right, per your example) for the next feeding.
Before I went back to work, I did the same thing as you and pumped just to start my stash and to get enough for Dh to give one bottle each night (for their bonding). When he was giving the bottle, I would pump both sides, which generally gave enough for the next day's bottle.
I also found that if I waited 20 - 30 minutes after feeding, I could pump both sides and get a small amount for the freezer.
Because we're fancy like that.
She is soo cute!
I wanted to have a freezer stash for DH to give DD a bottle, too, but really you should just pump to replace a feeding. For example, if your DH gives DD a bottle at 7:00, you should pump at 7:00.
I didn't do this
I actually pumped both sides after DD's first feed of the morning because that is when I had the most milk. I could usually get 3-5 ounces which was more than enough for one bottle if I was out without DD. I also didn't start pumping until she was almost 3 weeks old.
Just my two cents - you might not want to worry about pumping yet, but if it is working for you, go for it! Congrats again!
