part time or full time daycare?

I'm planning to send DD to daycare this fall. She'll be 2.5 years old then and she has always been at home and is a little shy and sensitive. If not considering money, do you think it's better to start with a part time (9:00-12:00) or a full time (9:00-18:00) daycare? If she goes with a part time, grandparents can watch her for the rest of the day, but can only do that for the next 6 months.  What would you choose?

Re: part time or full time daycare?

  • I would start with part-time if you can, then transition to full-time.

I second this. It's what I'm doing in the fall, too.

  • does the daycare have that flexibility, and would they be able to hold a full time spot for 6 months?
  • I would start with full time.  I know that it will be her grandparents watching the rest of day. But to me that would be 2 transitions that she will have to get used to. I would rather do it once.

  • FT - I am not one that would ever have family be my regular day care as I feel family should be there as Grandparents/Aunts, etc and not as a daycare.  They are there to have fun, spoil and all that good stuff but I think having family as daycare can just cause a lot of issues.
