Re: Interesting article about Lead in food and drinks

  • I saw this!  I have been eating Del Monte fruit cocktail every morning for breakfast, and I have a bunch of canned pears in the fridge.  I haven't even heard of most of the safe brands.  I guess I need to buy fresh.

  • Wow, if you look at the safe list, there is literally like 1 in each category... Crazy!

  • First, this sucks. why can't food just be healthy and chemical free?  Really, Gerber baby food has lead in it? That just seems so wrong.

Second, I have a whole bunch of  questions - How does the lead get there? Is it a result of something done in the manufacturing process? Or is it from pesticide use? Or is it present in the ground water soil where the veggies are grown, and therefore present from the start?

Do 'they' only test children's products, or do all foods recieve this scrutinty?

Are fresh fruits tested for lead as well?

Most importantly, where would I go to find these answers?

Sometimes I really feel like I need to go start my own organic farm. ::sigh::

Thank you for sharing this link.

  • This is really scary.

The more I read about food safety the more I want to grow all of my own food.

When DH and I first moved in together we rented a house on a farm and the guy that lived in the main house grew/harvested all of his own food.  The only thing the he ever bought was beer (and lots of it :P).  I used to think he was crazy, but now I understand.  He did eat a really boring diet, but at least he knew what was in all of his food!
