Toddler Sleep Regression?

Now I remember why I dont want another baby anytime soon Tongue Tied

I have no idea whats going on. Nothing has changed in the pat few days. The paci has been gone for over 2 weeks and when he talks about it he just tells me its "gone". End of story.

AT put up one hell of a fight yesterday to nap and go to bed. It was reminicent of the move sleeping issues. Meaning I would lay him down, he would pop back up and only want me to hold him nothing at all to do with his bed. Since we broke that habit hes been excited to go to bed to get his blankie etc.

But yesterday he fought a nap, once rocked to sleep he was okay. I chalked it up to teeth etc. Then last night he played this game with us for almost 2 hrs. I finally had to sit in the room with him for him to go to sleep.

Then 4am hits. Cries automatically where he used to just babble and fall back asleep. Soothing himself. I went up once, saw that it wasnt going to make a diff...so I gave him a little tylenol. Came back down went to bed and turned off the monitor. (call me mean if you want) There were no signs of anything wrong and I felt like I did what I needed to do if it was his teeth. I thnk he finally fell back asleep after 45m. I had to wake him this am to get ready for school.

Has this happend to anyone? I was thining of moving him to his toddler bed soon but thats not going to happen if this doesnt stop. I know it only happened one night but it will be a pattern with AT Im sure of it.

Re: Toddler Sleep Regression?

  • I don't know if I'd call it sleep regression just yet (but I'm not at your house either!)... Nora has had a few days in a row (once a whole week) where her naps were terrible...she would sleep for maybe 45 mins and wake up screaming.  she was visibly tired when i went in her room, but she wouldn't go back to sleep.  she also had a day where she woke up at 5am and wouldn't go back to sleep.  then the next day she woke up at 7 (usually gets up between 730 and 8).  i still have no idea what it was and probably won't.  i think some days they just don't get enough exercise or just don't need as much sleep and then they'll make up for it later.  GL I hope he starts sleeping well again soon!

  • DD had this happen about a month ago and it ended up being her canines coming in (3 of them). Does Andrew have those yet?  Sorry-it was horrible. Reminded me of the newborn days! bleh!

  • Liam goes through phases like this, sometimes a few days, sometimes a few weeks before he gets back to normal.  Sometimes it seems to be teething, or something else like an illness that's thrown off his sleep pattern, but sometimes I have no idea what is up.

I've been putting off the transition to his big boy bed for the same reason - when he's in a bad phase I often have to walk out with him standing in the crib crying and calling for me.  I have nightmares about what that will be like once he's in a bed he can get out of and follow me to the door LOL!

  • Crescent - yes I agree....he would run after me. When I lay im down its like Oh no you dont and come charging at me. Goodness!

I guess time will tell.....I can do CIO with the best of them but not DH. THankfully he was downstairs on the couch last night so he didnt hear a thing....me gives me the guilt trip.
