If babies can't have egg whites...

then do I just scramble up a yolk? I want to try eggs with Jake but scrambling a yolk just seems to weird to me...TIA!

Re: If babies can't have egg whites...

  • Yup!  I know, it seems weird.  Ava used to love it, though!  I used to add a little cheese, too.

I give H scrambled eggs all the time.  My pedi says it's fine...the latest research doesn't support waiting to introduce any food that is not a choking hazard (the exception being honey, because of the botulism risk). Did you check with your pedi?
  • I would check with your pedi, mine said egg whites were perfectly acceptable if she hadn't shown allergies to anything yet.  She also said pb was fine a couple months before one, so I'm not sure if she is just a liberal pedi.

  • We gave Hayden egg whites at about 10 months. His pedi  tols us that delaying foods (like eggs and peanut butter) only delays the onset of allergies not prevent them.

  • Our pedi gave us the okay for whole eggs at her 9mo appt.  We've tried scrambled eggs a couple of times and then we tried a hard boiled egg yesterday.  She is NOT a fan.

  • we gave cal whole eggs before we ever heard about egg whites being a no-no.  i think i only heard about it on here, though...our pedi said they were fine.  you could always hard boil and just give him the yolk.

  • I sprayed Pam in a coffee mug and broke the egg into that. Covered it with a paper towel and cooked it for 1 minute. I picked out the egg yolk and gave him the "hard boiled" part. I then ate the egg whites :-)

  • Per our pedi and other research I've read, we've given Stella the whole egg from the get go.  She's never had a bit of trouble with them.

  • I'd cook the eggs over hard and peel out the yolk for Jake to eat. I'd eat the whites.  It's a great way to get protein in the morning!
  • We got the okay to give the whole egg at her 9 month appointment.  Apparently there's new research out there regarding what to give/not give infants.  She loves scrambled eggs with some cheese and tomotoes.  And now she's even a fan of egg salad!  Good luck!
