We have a pool. Last year, dh took care of buying the chemicals and maintaining the pool. He refuses to this year because we didn't use it as much as he thought we should to make it worth the money. He wants to tear it down. (He doesn't use it much because it is in direct sunlight and gets really warm in the summer.)
So now if I want to keep it, I have to maintain it and buy the chemicals for it. I am already so busy with keeping the house clean, my veggie garden, working full time. But I hate to tear down the pool because I would use it at least a few times a week while I am gardening or for exercising. Last year I didn't use it as much because dh didn't keep up with the chemicals like he should and I never knew if it was safe to use.
So what is a good compromise because dh is mad that I don't want to tear it down? I don't really want to maintain it totally by myself. DH already does far less around the house than I do.
Re: Here is my WWBOTB do? (Longish as well)
Honestly, maintaining a pool isn't a ton of work. Well, as long as it's maintained. You check the chemicals a couple times a week, vacuum as needed, add chemicals as needed. It's really pretty simple. I maintained our pool as a teen, and it was seriously the easiest "chore" a teen could ask for. And, man, I love vacuuming the pool. Such a relaxing task.
If it were me, I'd maintain the pool and be glad I could enjoy one in my backyard. Maybe once the summer gets rolling, your DH will help out or take over if you're overwhelmed but are still using the pool.

And then I can use the fee to pay for the pool chemicals! Good call except he really won't use it. For two reasons, one he is as stubborn as they come and two it really does get way too warm with no shade all day. It nearly feels like bathwater already and we are only mid June.
Okay I guess this is what I am going to do. I brought a water sample to work and am going to take it into the pool store this afternoon. I will ask them to tell me what the heck I am doing.
Then at the end of the summer I can decide whether it is worth keeping for the next year. It needs a new liner and I don't want to spend that kind of money if we aren't going to use it.
Thanks ladies.
I like this.
I think I should maintain it and send him a bill each month for the maintenance fees. Only because we have an unspoken agreement that he does outside work (with the exception of my garden because I am more organic and he is more spray DDT on the bugs) and I do inside work. The pool it outside.
I wonder what the going rate for a pool cleaner is?
