Yes, I use cloth for both of my daughters and LOVE it! However, I don't use a diaper service, I just bought my own and wash them myself. What kind of cloth diapers do they provide? Is it only prefolds?
It's only pre-folds. I also plan on registering for regular flat packs to use as burping cloths and to compare which I would prefer as a diaper. Plus you can register for the service in lieu of disposables for the baby shower. I think for the first few months when the baby uses the most diapers, and we're in a rental, I'd use the service to ease myself in. I definitely plan on revisiting the options when my maternity leave is up (and we are living in our "grown-up" house:)). My mom will be watching the baby, so it depends on if she can help with the cloth, if I'll have time, or if it's worth just sticking with the service. No one I know has done cd so I don't want to take on too much and get discouraged!
Do you do two diapers together to prevent leaks or does one work? Is it true you don't have to use plastic covers?
And it depends on what kind of cloth you are using as far as a cover goes. Prefolds, yes, you will need a cover. Green mountain diapers has TONS of info for new to cloth diapering. It can really be overwhelming at first. You just have to find the system that works for you and your LO. Here is a link for their site: https://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/newmom.htm
Also, I before you dish out tons of money buying new diapers, you could always buy seconds. They have a great forum called diaper swappers and you can get some really awesome deals. https://www.diaperswappers.com//
You could also use the cloth diaper foundation. They will loan you (for free, you pay shipping only) diapers to use for as long as you need. You just fill out an application. Here is their site: https://www.clothdiaperfoundation.org/
I hope some of this can be useful for you. Feel free to ask me anything you have questions about!
I CD! I dont recommend the diaper service- its beyond easier and more cost effective to buy your own! Washing's not difficult either.
I 2nd Zukababy on Magazine (I actually work there... LOL), EVery Saturday morning at 9, Erin, the owner, holds a cloth diapering class where she goes over the different methods, washing, etc. And if you wind up buying anything that day you get 10% off your whole purchase.
If you happen to see "Kelley" in there, tell me HI!
Cool, I'll have to check Zuka out. I think I'm doing the service just for the first few months, you don't have to sign up past that. But at that point, I'm going back to work and my mom is my nanny, so I feel like she has a say in it. I'm just going to reevaluate after the initial period. She'll be with me for about a month before I go back so we can get the swing of things, so we'll just figure it out together! I'm excited though, to have options.

I cd as well. I use prefolds and thirsties covers from Zuka baby on Magazine St. It's so easy and better then a diaper service. IMO.
For night time I use GM's with inserts and they work like a charm. The prefolds always leaked as my LO is a heavy wetter overnight.
www.americanpregnancy.org has a GREAT cd'ing section in their discussion forum...it is WELL worth the visit if you are going to cd!!!
