Help: storage/usage of Expressed Breast Milk

My milk is starting to come in (yay).  I am pumping and bottle feeding due to weight gain issues right now.

Can milk from different pumpings (ie. 12, 3, 6, 9) all be stored in one bottle in the fridge for 4-5 days and used during that time period/similarly can milk from different pumpings be combined in one bag for freezing?

Thanks :)

  • Yes, it can be combined- but you need to combine them at the same temperature.  For example, you can't add freshly expressed milk to a bottle of cold milk already in the fridge from a separate pumping.  Simply refrigerate both and combine when they are both cold.  Kellymom is a great resource:  https://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/milkstorage.html

  • what nicole said--except i always dumped warm milk into the cold milk in the fridge and A was fine.  i wouldn't dump warm milk into the same bag as already frozen milk though.

    Ditto this.

I get where the other moms are coming from about the dumping fresh pumped/warm into the cold but it takes suck little effort to cool the new stuff down I would wouldn't.  Kellymom is a great resorce for all BFing and storage questions.
