Baby Names

Middle Name Options

We are settled on a first name, Sadie.  For the middle name, we want to honor one of my grandma's, but we can't figure out which.  My grandma Elizabeth has passed on but my grandma Joan is alive and I am super close to her.  I think I like the way Elizabeth sounds better but I like the idea of honoring my grandma Joan while she's still here.  Thoughts?[Poll]
Sadie is not impressed.

Re: Middle Name Options

  • I vote Sadie Joan for two reasons. #1 - the family meaning and that being who you really want to name her after. #2 - I actually like it better. It seems like Elizabeth is the next Marie, Lynn, Nichole, etc. I mean I would still use it if that is who you really want to honor, but it doesn't sound like that is the case.

  • I picked Elizabeth because I think it flows best.

I tend to agree on Elizabeth, it seems like it's become a default middle name for girls.

  • I prefer Elizabeth :)  but perhaps I'm a bit biased because is my MN too
  • I like the flow of Elizabeth better, although it's becoming quite generic. I also like the idea of Joan, but there's something about it. What about Jane, which is close to Joan? or JoAnn/Joann/Joanne/?

I wonder if it's because Elizabeth was so popular when our grandmothers were born. Both of mine have it in their name, one as a first name the other as a middle name.

  • Why not honour both?  Sadie Elizabeth Joan. :)
