Does anyone have any experience about a pitocin induction without and epi?
I'm scheduled to be induced on Thursday, but I was really hoping for a natural birth. Not sure if I will be able to handle the Pitocin contractions without some pain meds.
Any stories would be appreciated!
Re: Pitocin without epidural anyone?
That would be great, thanks!

It is totally doable! Just stay confident!! Good luck!

I will give you my two experiences.
With DS#1 I was induced, but for 24 hours before I was having very irregular contractions (and lots of them). They HURT. When they hooked me up to the pitocin for my induction, the contractions still HURT. They were no more or no less uncomfortable than the contractions I was already having.
With DS#2, my water broke on it's own but I was not having contractions, so they started me on pitocin. I labored for about 5 hours on my own with no epi. The contractions were just uncomfortable, they didn't hurt. I knew though, that I wanted an epi and decided I would probably end up in much pain later, so I went ahead and got it - but for those 5 hours of pitocin contractions, they didn't hurt.
My point is, EVERYONE on here bashes pitocin so bad and says the contractions are worse/more painful, ect. That has not been my experience at all. First case, hurt just as bad, second case, didn't even really hurt.

this happened.. My body was contracting but not enough to feel or help me dilate.. I got pit an hour after arriving and then I started to feel them and they hurt... I'm a pansy though and didnt want pain so I got an epi
I'm sure it was doable without (I could still talk through the pain..not quickly but I could).. Just not my idea of fun.. depends on your body and pain tolerance as well..nurses kept asking me to rate my pain.
Oh don't get me wrong. I was begging for drugs at the end! But I ended up dialating from a 2 to a 10 in a matter of 15 min and there was no time!
Yes, with my first son. It was a horrible experience. He was born at 35w6d, that morning I had a gush of fluid, went to L&D at 7am and was 3cm and 80% effaced, and my water was leaking. They put me on pitocin at 8am. I was told that if I had the epi I would be confined to the bed with a catheter, I didn't want that, but didn't know what to expect. The contraction got strong and stronger throughout the morning, but not untolerable until my water fully broke at about 2pm. The contractions were unreal. I couldn't breathe during them and threw up a few times because of the pain. I was about 6cm when my water broke and was begging for the epi, but the anesth. was working on another patient, so I had to wait. I finally got the epi at 8cm, and it didn't work AT ALL. I felt the whole birth. I'll never forget feeling the episiotomy and also the feeling that my hips were breaking as he came through. He was born at 5:49pm that evening and weighed 6lbs 9oz, I was completely worn out and miserable after he was born.
I was induced with my 2nd son, but was smart about it. I went in when I was 4cm and 100% effaced with small contractions and they broke my ater for me, but I was smart to get the epi before I was given picotin and before my water broke. I felt NO pain through the whole birth, just pressure. He was born at 38w and was 8lbs2oz. I had lots of energy and he came into the world in a calm, peaceful atmosphere, unlike my first son.
So, the moral of my story is that I WILL get that epi as soon as I get into l&D with this child. GL, I hope the decision you make is the best one for you and its an amazing birth.

I had a Pitocin induced birth with no epi. It was difficult, but totally doable. I don't have anything to compare it to, but I have a very low pain tolerance.
I highly recommend taking a class that has breathing exercises. They highly discourage screaming or hard grunting. Otherwise, I loved my "natural" birth!
