Parenting after 35

Parenting fail

Last night Matty would not eat dinner. Nothing. So I nursed him but he had a little bit of a tough time falling asleep.

Around 4am he woke up and then cried about every ten minutes or so. DH said Matt wanted attention and was fine. We went in to check on him a few times and I nursed him once after about on hour. Finally he went back down.

This morning I went into to get Matt after he woke up and he threw up in his crib.  I can only assume that his not eating dinner and him being fussy all night was a sign he was not feeling well.

Boy do I feel like a bad mom for not realizing he had an upset tummy.

My question is what can I do in the future if this happens to help his stomach?

  • Awww, poor Matty!

Try not to berate yourself too much, I think sometimes it's just hard to tell what's wrong, if anything.  I have no idea what's good for a belly ache, though.  My MIL suggests a little orange blossom water from a spoon.  I don't know if it does any good, but Margaux likes a tiny bit sprinkled in with her fruit mushes, and it's great in a grownup fruit salad.  :)

  • How can you tell? I feel like it's impossible. Don't feel bad. In another year or so they'll be able to tell us. In the meantime their system will get rid of whatever is making them feel ill. You do what you can.

  • You could try gripe water. I haven't used it yet but it's a natural remedy supposed to help with colic, upset stomach, teething and hiccups. It's worth a try! They sell it at Walgreens in the baby section.

  • I agree - it is too hard to tell for you to beat yourself up!  We'll all be there at one point or another too.
