Help: How to clean wooden blocks (mouse nest)?

My MIL pulled out some homemade wooden blocks from her basement that were my husband's when he was little. They are really nice but we discovered a mouse nest in the bucket with them. I know that mice are pretty gross and can carry a lot of germs. I am a little nervous about cleaning since it is wood and not a hard surface, and because all LO wants to do is eat everything. Bleach seems dangerous for LO and I have never used it to clean any of her things before.

What should I do? Do I attempt to clean the blocks or just not use them? Thanks!

They aren't painted - just plain wood.

  • are they painted?  If they are I would not use them.  Safety standards have changed a lot.

But, if you really want to use them.........you can make a bleach water 10% solution and use it to dampen a cloth and wipe clean.  Put in the sun to dry.

  • Bleach evaporates so a good rinse and dry like pp said should do the trick.
  • I soaked mine in bleach and water to clean and put them outside to dry.
