Father's day gift idea: baseball with DD's handprint- advice needed!

I saw a post last week I think of a great idea I want to steal- someone had bought a baseball and took their daughter's hand and printed it on the baseball, then put it in a little showcase box. My question is because I am the least crafty person in the world: 1) what kind of paint would you use to get your child's handprint on the baseball? 2) where could i purchase a little case for the the baseball?

Thanks!

  • THANK YOU for posting this! I haven't been able to think of a father's day gift that is inexpensive that DH would like, and he would LOVE this!

Anxious to hear the feedback, b/c I absolutely have to be even less crafty than you. No idea about the paint & display case.

In the OP, were there pictures? If so, I'll go hunting for it b/c I'd like to see it.

  • I would use a stamp pad (ink) because you would get more precise detail over paint.
You can buy the cases at Michael's or any memorabilia shop.

    Cute idea, Good luck!

  • That was me!  I used acrylic craft paint from Michael's (it was 99 cents).  I got my display case at Michaels as well, but you can get them at most craft/hobby stores and I've even seen them at WalMart.

TKx2 - could you share a picture? I can't seem to find the other post and would love to see the finished project!

  • A word of advice for the 1yr old.  I did ornaments for my daughter first Christmas with her hand print and it was very difficult to do.  Try it out on something other then the ball first to see you your LO does.  If it doesn't work well you can get a print on a paper towel and then go of the print in paint and then apply it to the ball. Good luck very cute idea

  • we did this for a grandpa gift when LO was 6 weeks old (ish). we used a stamp pad instead of paint, and just pressed his hand directly onto the baseball. a toddler is a little more wiggly, though... good luck- grandpa loves his baby baseball!
